Marc and Emmanuella

Hang Glide USA recently had the honor to fly with two orphans who have flourished in one of the most impoverished areas of the world. Marc and Emmanuella are from Haiti where they attend the Christian Light School. The Christian Light School was founded by a Florida native who saw a need that she could fill and has provided many children in Haiti the opportunity to learn and grow individually and in turn better their communities. Aside from learning a double curriculum, Haitian and American, the children who attend this school learn French, English, Creole, Spanish, and sign language.

The heavy focus on language provides the children with many opportunities outside of the community and within. In Haiti; Creole and French are the dominate languages and a large amount of the population is deaf due to the lack of access to medicine. Learning sign language provides the students the tools to teach the deaf population of Haiti how to communicate with the outside world where they would have otherwise remained secluded and not received the necessary needs for life.

Now that Marc and Emmanuella are older they each help in the school and the children’s home. Marc assists with accounting and bookkeeping and Emmanuella helps with taking care of the younger children in the orphanage. They are not all work and no play though and we had the opportunity to take these two up in the air while they were on vacation in Florida and they had a great time.
